Futurity Second Go Round Gets Underway

For some it's maintaining the momentum. For others it's "do or die" - either make up ground or head home early. The second go round of the NRHA Futurity began on Monday December 1st at the Oklahoma State Fair Park, home of the NRHA Futurity & Championship Show.

Duane Latimer made up considerable ground on Hang Ten Surprize by Hangten Peppy and out of Mizzen Topsail. Owned by Bob Loomis Quarter Horses, Inc/Manntanna LLC, Hang Ten Surprize scored a 217.5 in the first go round but went to the head of the class after his second go round score of 225.5. They have the leading composite to date: 443.

Dell Hendricks maintained nicely - in fact he upped the ante a bit. Dell scored a 221 on Doug Adair's Starbucks Sidekick (Smart Starbuck/Dun It For Chex) bringing his composite to 441.5. Brent Naylor, riding Bella Vista Ranch's Kalifornia Boom (Mr Boomerjac x Dun Its Miss Kali), maintained his momentum. He scored a 221 for a composite 441, which is tied with Todd Sommers on Remington 2000 (Reminic x Miss Chenny Watch) owned by Vaughn Zimmerman.

NRHA Hall of Famer/Million Dollar Rider Tim McQuay jumped up and scored a 222.5 on David Silva's Dun It In Tinseltown (Hollywood Dun It/Miss Tinseltown) to bring his composite up to 439.5. Mike McEntire made up considerable ground on Angelo and Jan Berretini's Jazzygun (Gunner/Jazzabelle Tea). They scored a 222 for a composite score of 439.

Intermediate and Limited Open Divisions

Corey Hendrickson was consistent on Kathy and Marc Gordon's Heza Sure Whiz (Topsail Whiz/Im Not Blonde). He scored a 218 his first time out, then added a 219 his second time in the show pen for the leading Intermediate Open composite of 437. Brent Loseke, riding Gee Ronnie Mo (Smart Chic Olena x Remedys Peppy San) owned by Loseke and Wallis Winegar, marked a 217.5 to equal his first go round score and earning a composite of 435 - good enough for second place in the standings. Dun Roostin (Gallo Del Cielo x Olena Gay,) owned by July Raley and ridden by Jason Vanlandingham, scored a 216.5 for a third place composite of 433.5 and tied with Shane Allen Brown riding Lenas Wright Smart (Lenas Wright On/Tuckers Frosted Chex) owned by Palmer Equestrian, Inc.

Shane Allen Brown's composite is leading the Limited Open Division standings. The Mighty Gambler (Dealin Dirty x Reminics Ruby), ridden by Thiago Sobral for Sharon Dorociak earned a composite 431.5 and is tied for second with Justin Mathison and Jordan Larson. Mathison is riding Dis Dolls A Dun It (Hollywood Dun It x Mi Royal Remedy) for Lacey Hardy Glennon. Larson is riding David Silva's Hollywood Footprints (Hollywood Dun It x Great Footwork)

Cinch NRHA Non Pro Futurity

Kelle Smith maintained her lead in the Non Pro Division by earning a 217.5 in the second go round on Sam Smith's Chexanicki (Bueno Chexinic x Fancy Footwork) for a composite of 437. Dr. Jim Morgan, riding Hesa Dun Smart Listo (Listo Pollito Lena x Dun It Sliding), is sitting in second place with a composite of 434. Greg Gottschalk, riding Russet Stable's PB Smoken (Reminic x Smoken Hillbilly) scored a 214.5, but his first go round score of 218 has him in good standing with a composite of 432.5.

Intermediate and Limited Non Pro

Heat On The Street (Reminic x Smart Dolly Olena) owned and shown by Sarah Hunt has a composite score of 432 to take the lead in the Intermediate Non Pro composite standings. Boomon N Seven (Boomernic x Seven S Catalpa), owned and shown by Quincy Cahill is one point behind with a 431. Nelle Murphy, riding her own Genuine Mate (Smart Mate x Genuine Starlet), is in third place with a 427.5.

Sarah Johnson, riding Craig Johnson's Doc Santa Belle (Colonels A Doc x Young Santa Belle) is leading the Limited Non Pro composite standings with a 425. Smart Lookin Whizard (Whizard Jac x Bar S Smart Lookin), owned and shown by Catherine Clark, earned a composite of 424.5 for second place. Dale Bicknell, riding Whizard Done It (Whizard Jac x Tuff As Footwork), is sitting third with a 421.
